Decision-making is the process of identifying a problem or opportunity and choosing among alternative courses of action.

Intuition
Intuition is the ability to know or to recognize quickly and readily the possibilities of a given situation.
Judgment Heuristics and fallacies (a mistaken belief)
- Recency (happened in near past) fallacy
- Similarity fallacy (Stereotyping)

Organizational communication
Organizational communication is the process by which entities exchange information and establish a common understanding.
Functions of Organizational Communication
- Exchanging information
- Expressing feelings and emotions
- Achieving coordinated actions
- Communicating Expectations
Guidelines for active listening
- Listen to message content (Information function)
- Listen to feelings (Expression function)
- Respond to feelings
- Note all cues
- Reflect back to the source
Nonverbal communication
- Facial expressions
- Eye contact
- Body position
- Physical gestures
Mixed Messages
Mixed messages occur when people’s words communicate one message while their actions or nonverbal language communicate another.
Status Effect
- Communication can be biased (one-sided) when flowing upward in organizational hierarchies.
- Managers may be inclined to do more “telling” than “listening”.
Minimizing Communication Barriers
- Managers by wandering around
- Developing trust in working relationships
- Taking advantage of opportunities for face-to-face communication
Constructive feedback is:
- More concerned about the receiver than yourself
- Given directly and with real feeling
- Non evaluative (with regard to the person)
- Specific rather than general
