One Rep max (1RM) Flashcards

1
Q

What is the purpose of the technique i.e. what are you measuring and why?

A

When there is a mismatch between how much we use the muscle and what it is designed for = weakness.
Individuals may have and inability to produce
sufficient force. The impact of this on the
individual is that they may complain that they
cannot undertake activities and we can use said activities to give insight.

Assess to gain a baseline or progression

Q

What principles are used in carrying out (application) the technique?

A

1) Patient comfortable, explain procedure, informed consent
2) Warm up using movement to be tested - teach exercise and form (10 reps), 1 Min rest
3) Add 4-9kg (UL) / 14-18kg (LL), 3-5 reps, 2 mins rest
4) Add 4-9kg (UL) / 14-18kg (LL), 2-3 reps, 2-4 mins rest
5) Add 4-9kg (UL) / 14-18kg (LL), 1 reps, 2-4 mins rest
6) If successful continue adding weight incrementllly, if not, reduce weight by 2-4kg (UL) / 7-9kg (LL)
7) Continue until patient able to complete one rep with proper form - highest weight possible
8) ideally measure withing 5 tesiting sets
