Assessing brains ability to take in information, assess it and output it as movement

A

Finger nose:
Missing target?
Shaking arm/hand?
Slowing down?

Heel shin:
Keep contact?
Use of inside of foot for stability?

Overshooting?

How do you carry out the finger nose test?

A

1) Patient comfortable, explain procedure, informed consent
2) sit opposite patient
3) ask them to touch your finger with theirs and then their nose
4) repeat this, moving your finger increase speed
5) test opposite to compare

How do you carry out the heel shin test?

A

1) Patient comfortable, explain procedure, informed consent
2) Patient lying down
3) ask patient to place heel of one foot just below the kneecap of the opposite leg and run it down shin until ankle
4) observe movement
5) repeat with opposite leg and compare
