One note notes Flashcards
what is one of the challenges of qualit. ethnography study?
people might not say what they are actually doing.
ethics - real challenge too.
where is embedded mixed methods common?
in RCT or registry.
can causality be proven in human studies?
No , probably unethical , bias …
what does internal validity entails?
measurement and cofounding bias , chance
Investigator draws the correct concludion about what happened in the study
which study desgin is more prone to selection bias?
case control because you picked who has and who has not the disease
what is hawthorne effect?
Alteration of behaviour when being observed.
confounder:
Explains an association between a risk factor on a disease
not the same as interaction.
does non significant means no effect?
NO :) means that in your study you couldn’t make an association.
accept uncertainty
which study design is good for rare outcomes?
case control
what does cohort sutides measure?
expore vs no exposed.
it uses relative risk to present resutlsl
what is an ecological fallacy?
hen inappropriate conclusions are made about individuals from the aggregated data – hence any association observed at a group level does not necessarily mean that the same association exists for a single individual from that group.
what are the characteristics of high qualitity syst. review?
- clearly stated set of objectives with pre-defined eligibility criteria for included studies
- clearly defined methods that provide transparency and allow replication by others
- involves a systematic search to identify all studies that would meet the eligibility criteria
- included studies are screened for quality (i.e. evaluated using PEDro scale, Cochrane Risk of Bias assessment, qualitative study analysis)
- meta-analysis (where possible) can synthesis outcomes across studies
