manual toothbrush technique

A

45 degrees angle between tooth and brush with bristles pointing towards gingival sulcus
ideally wait 30 mins after eating and drinking before brushing
avoid vigorous brushing as this could cause tooth abrasion/ gingival recession

A

alcohol mouthwashes carry risk of xerostomia and oral cancer
chlorhexidine mouthwashes good for ptx whos pain prevents manual brushing

A
  • toothbrushing , manual or powered , modify technique
  • interdental cleaning , floss or interdental brushes
  • mouthwash - after mealtimes when not brushing
  • diet - diet diary (include weekend day), frequency of sugar intake , use straw, restrict sugar to mealtimes

  • free flow spout cup after 6 months
  • only ever water at night
  • milk and water best
