manual toothbrush technique
45 degrees angle between tooth and brush with bristles pointing towards gingival sulcus
ideally wait 30 mins after eating and drinking before brushing
avoid vigorous brushing as this could cause tooth abrasion/ gingival recession
powered toothbrush technique
45 degree angle between brush and gingiva, brushing action achieved from rotary head or sonic bristle vibration so no harsh brushing action required

fluoridated and alcohol free best for most ptx either between brushing or at meal times
alcohol mouthwashes carry risk of xerostomia and oral cancer
chlorhexidine mouthwashes good for ptx whos pain prevents manual brushing
