if patient is having suspected asthma attack what three things should you be looking out for
- respiratory rate
- are they using accessory muscles to breathe e.g arms pinned back
- can they talk in sentences / communicate
what to do if someone is having suspected asthma attack
sit them down try to keep them calm and encourage deep breaths
give one puff blue inhaler (salbutamol - short acting beta agonist) every 30 - 60 secs for up to 10 puffs
if no improvement or gets worse call 999
what to do if someone having angina attack
sit them down
apply gtn spray sublingually
apply again after 5 mins if no improvement
if still no improvement call 999
what to do if someone if someone is having an anaphylactic shock
epi pen to upper thigh
equipment required if someone goes into cardiac arrest
defib , scissors, razor , bag valve mask ,hme filter, oxygen cylinder
5 common hazards in the clinical setting
- overflowing sharps box
- unsheathed needles
- blood or saliva on floor/ chair/ side of spitoon
- burs in handpieces
- sharps pointing up on bracket table
- instruments in sink
- touching things with gloved hands
