Three critical procedures shall be followed when responding to an incident on a light rail car. What are they?
- Ensure Dispatch notifies Ruby Junction of the incident.
- The pantograph must be lowered before entering the car.
- Obtain clearance from TriMet to enter the track way.
Who can lower a pantograph?
The pantograph will be lowered by the operator, or the Rail Supervisor.
What are the procedures for Fires in rail cars?
- Ensure Dispatch notifies Ruby Junction of the incident.
- Confirm pantograph is lowered.
- Evacuate all passengers.
- Extinguish fire (note: each car has 32 volt backup battery).
The Type 1, 3, & 4 vehicles have a battery isolation switch, who can notify an officer where the switch is in these cars?
Rail Control or Supervisor can advise on the location depending on the car type.
What type cars do not have an accessible battery isolation switch?
Type 2 cars
What are the procedures for fires in substations/electrical vaults?

- Treat as a substation/electrical vault fire; do not enter or apply water until power is confirmed off.
Who can confirm that power is off in a tri-met substation?
TriMet will not be able to verify that power is off to the substation; that information will need to come from the utility.
Who can tell you what utility power company to contact to shut down power to a substation?
Rail Control will know what utility is feeding a specific substation (PGE or PP&L)
What are the procedures for TA1MAX?
- Ensure Dispatch notifies Ruby Junction of the incident.
- Obtain clearance to enter track way .
- Do not park apparatus on tracks.
- Confirm pantograph is lowered.
- Watch for downed power lines.
- Treat patients in vehicle and/or rail car.
- Consider possibility of Mass Casualty Incident (MCI).
- Consider need for additional resources.
Train vs. pedestrian (TA1MAX) procedures.

- Obtain clearance to enter track way .
- Do not park apparatus on tracks.
- Treat victim.
- If victim is pinned under rail car, lower pantograph before removing victim.
Derailment Procedures:

- Consider possibility of MCI.
- Consider need for additional resources.
- Depending on the severity of the derailment the train may be unstable; caution should be used when approaching and boarding/alighting a derailed train. (The Rail Supervisor will be able to advise).
