For SCC:
- alcohol & smoking
For Adenocarcinoma:
- Barrett’s Oesophagus, obesity

- SCC–> mostly proximal and middle third of oesophagus
- Adenocarcinoma–> distal oesophagus

Presentation?
A
- PROGRESSIVE dysphagia
- odynophagia
- haematemesis
- weight loss/anorexia
- chest pain
- cough
- pneumonia
- vocal cord paralysis

Tests?
A
- Diagnosis: endoscopy + biopsy
- Staging: CT

Spread?
A
- blood –> liver
- regional lymph nodes

Treatment?
A
- curative–> oesophagectomy +/- adjuvant/neo adjuvant chemotherapy
- palliative–> endoscopic stent / laser
