Annuit coeptis meaning and history

A

Meaning: He/she/it has agreed to what has been undertaken

Origin is that Jupiter, the highest god of the Roman pantheon, is asked to agree with the actions of the Romans-to-be in coming to Italy and defeating the local Italians. The idea behind the Great Seal is that a divine being has agreed to the Americans creating the United States
