Intrusive and persistent thoughts, images and impulses
There are the internal aspect of OCD
They can range from worrying that you left the oven on to worrying you might kill someone
Persistent and reoccurring thoughts, images or impulses that are
Unwanted and cause distress to the person experiencing them
The person actively
Tries to ignore the thoughts, images and impulses but can’t
Compulsions are
Physical or mental repetitive actions
Physical or mental repetitive actions are the
External aspects of OCD
The problem is that the action
Only reduces the anxiety caused by the obsession for a short time which means the obsession will start up again
The DSM uses the following criteria
Repeating physical behaviours or mental acts
The compulsions are meant to reduce anxiety or prevent something
The compulsions aren’t caused by other sources such as drugs
