  • Are ritualistic or repetitive behaviours or mental acts that a person carries out continuously in an attempt to neutralize anxiety
  • The person knows the rituals are unreasonable but feels forced to continue them in an attempt to relieve anxiety caused by obsessions

Obsessions: recurring and irrational ideas or images, lead to compulsions, can cause fear, worry, and deep anxiety
Compulsions: recurring, irrational acts of behaviours, results of obsessions, can even cause bodily damage
