Length of Time
Long Term
Unit of Treatment
individual or FOO depending on who is related to the problem (Framo encouraged FOO)
Assumptions of ORT
objects are internalized images of the individual’s caregivers. there is a process of INSIGHT and WORKING THROUGH
Goal of Treatment for ORT
- to develop a healthy central ego - allows for individuals to relate to others in mature, undistorted ways
Early Phase of Treament (Initial)
- explore early childhood experiences,
- past and present relationship to primary caregiver, and
- explore relationship style
Middle Phase of Treatment
- foster INSIGHT
- make room for meaning of current bxs about childhood,
- begin working through unresolved internalized conflict;
- The Dirty Middle: the Middle of therapy when insight is achieved but working through is at an impasse
End Phase of Treatment
- individuals can begin to experiment to interact in new ways with themselves and with others;
- reshape internalized objects from the pastto relate to others in mature; non-distorted ways
projection
when you attribute your own unacceptable feelings and attributes on someone else;
projective identification
when infants split unacceptable parts of themselves onto the mother object and then back on themselves
insight
bringing the unconscious to awareness
working through
translating the insight into something desireable is constructive
interpretation
the thp hypthesis onto the client’s past experiences of current bxs
transference
the expression of internal object relationships within the therapeutic relationship
