Air Force Doctrine
Statement of official sanctioned beliefs, war fighting principles & terminology that describes & guides the proper use of air, space and cyberspace power in military operations. Shapes the manner in which AF organizes, trains, equips and sustains it’s forces.
Basic Doctrine (AFDD-1)
It is the foundation of all other doctrines & sets the tone & vision for future doctrine development.
Operational Doctrine (AFDD-2)
Describes a more detailed organization of forces and applies the principles of basic doctrine to military actions.
Tactical Doctrine
Describes the proper employment of specific AF assets, individually or in concert with other assets to accomplish detailed objectives. (changes may occur more rapidly than the other levels of doctrine) Some documents are classified as well.
U.S. Strategy
National Security Strategy, National Defense Strategy, & National Military Strategy
National Security Strategy
Policy of the US to seek & support democratic movements & institutions in every nation and culture with the intimate goal of ending tyranny in our world.
National Defense Strategy
Provide a common defense to protect the American people.
National Military Strategy
Provide a broad strategic context for employing military capabilities in concert with other instruments of national power.
Joint Campaign
A series of related major operations aimed at achieving strategic and operational objectives withing a given time and space, in which elements of two or more military departments participate.
Traditional Warfare
A confrontation between nation-states or coalitions/alliances of nations states.
Irregular Warfare
A violent struggle among state and non-sate actors for legitimacy and influence over the relevant populations.
Close Air Support (CAS)
Provides direct support to help friendly surface forces in contact with enemy forces carry out their assigned tasks.
