1994 - 5 monitoring units were donate by US geological survey’s DISASTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM to for the Goma Volcano Observatory - fighting and looting - cause volcanologists to flee.

A

Goma airport was closed because lava flows had destroyed part of the runway.

Fleeing to Rwanda - Lake Kivu became contaminated - people by the lake died of asphyxiation.
