Nutritions is what you eat
Name all seven main food types in a balance diet.
- Carbohydrates
- Proteins
- Fats
- Vitamins
- Minerals
- Roughage (fibre)
- Water
Why carbohydrates are important for your body?
Carbohydrates are fuel for your body. They are essential food nutrients that your body turns into glucose to give you the energy to function.
Give examples of carbohydrates
Bread, potatoes, pasta
Why proteins are important for your body?
Proteins are vital for growth and the repair damaged areas.
What for the proteins are used for?
They are used for building cells
Give some examples of food containing lots of protein.
Meat, eggs, fish, diary products
Why do we need fats in our diary?
Fats act as a store of energy-which you use if your body runs out of carbohydrets
What food is rich with fats?
Butter, cooking oil, cream
Why do we need vitamins?
Vitamins are only needed in very small amount they keep many vital processes happening.
Name main minerals.
- Iron (meat) needed for blood
2 Calcium (dairy products) needed for bones - Sodium (salt) needed for nerves
- Iodine (seafood) needed for thyroid in the neck
What roughge (fiber) is used for?
Roughage(fiber) gives your digestive system an internal work out keeping it fit, healthy and working
Why water is important for your body?
About 75% of your body is water and all chemical reactions (eg. digestion), take place in water
