How does the DRV for carbohydrate change through the lifecycle?
There is no carbohydrate recommendation for children under two.
50% of total energy should come in the form of carbohydrates for the majority of the population.
In the elderly carbohydrates may get reduced and fats increased to help with weight gain.
How does the DRV’s for fat differ throughout the lifecycle?
Children up until the age of 5 have no recommendations for fat intake.
From 5 to death the recommendation is no more than 35% for total fat intake and no more than 11% can come from saturated fats.
Fat may increase in the elderly if they are struggling to eat.
