What is the model of educational socialization?

A

in stages

  1. INITIAL INNOCENCE: when you first enter with your initial image/idea of what nursing is
  2. INCONGRUITIES: exposed to knowledge, practices, and values that contradict your idea. begin to question your fit
  3. IDENTITY: start to identify with what the actual role is and redefine your image
  4. ROLE SIMULATION: begin to take on role, feels uncomfortable and like you are pretending
  5. VACILLATION: going back and forth btwn your image and actual role/values (sprinkler)
  6. INTERNALIZATION: becomes a part of who you are. Accept and embrace nursing.

GRASSROOTS: start at the bottom up (everyone has a voice)

ORGANIZATION: advocate for nursing with your employer and connect with professional organizations

EDUCATION: acknowledge that nursing has its own body of knowledge. inform others of what you do

COLLECTIVE BARGAINING: unions to improve conditions

MEDIA: advocate the media to portray nurses adequately

RECRUITMENT: make sure the image painted is accurate and that recruitment is ethical
