Nucleus Of Meynert Flashcards

Q
Nucleus of meynert
A
The nucleus of Meynert, is a group of neurons in the substantia innominata of the basal forebrain. The substantia innominata lies below the anterior part of the thalamus and lentiform nucleus.
The nucleus of Meynert has been established as the main source of acetylcholine in the brain. It is found to be atrophic in Alzheimer’s thus explaining both the loss of acetylcholine in this condition and the success of cholinesterase inhibitors.
