NS N GM Darwin’s theory of Evolution Flashcards
Genetic Variation
Individuals in a population, vary in their characteristics , as a result of different in their genes.
Natural Selection
Individuals with better adapted variations are more likely to survive and reproduce ‘survival of the fittest’.
Inheritance
The next generation will contain more individuals with the better adapted versions.
Competition
Individuals complete for resources eg food or mates. some variations are better adapted to getting resources and others.
Evolution
These survivors over produce and will pass on their getter genes to some of their offspring who will also show that beneficial variations.
What are the five kingdoms ?
Plants
Fungi
Animal
Protist
Prokaryotes
What’s the classification system ?
Kingdoms
Phylum
Class
Order
Family
Genus
Species
What are the 3 domains that all living organism can be classified in based on dna analysis?
Archea
Bacteria
Eukaryote
Artificial selection
is when humans close certain organisms because they have useful characteristics, such as sheep with think wool
Selective breeding
of which cabbage has produced many vegetables all varieties of the same species
Genetics enginering
involves changing dna of one organism often by inserting genes from another. This creates genetically modifying organisms ()
