2.Cell and control Flashcards
Describe growth in animals
Cell division and differentiation
Describe growth in plants
Cell division, elongation and differentiation
Describe the stages in a reflex arc in order
Receptor, sensory neurone, relay neurone, motor neurone, effector
Name the three processes that mitosis is important for
Growth, repair and asexual reproduction
What are meristems
Stem cells found in plants
What are the products of mitosis?
Two genetically identical diploid body cells
What are the stages of mitosis in order?
Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase, cytokinesis
What are two stages of the cell cycle?
Interphase and mitosis
What happens during anaphase?
The chromosomes copies are separated and move to the end of this cell to the spindle fibres
What happens during cytokinesis?
A cell surface membrane forms to separate the two cells, cell walls from the plants
What happened during prophase?
The nucleus starts to break down and spindle fibres appear
What happens during telophase?
Membrane forms around each set of chromosomes form nuclei
What happens at the end of metaphase?
The chromosomes are lined up on the spindle fibres across the middle of the cell
What is cancer?
The result of changes and saw that leads uncontrolled cell division
What is the function of embryonic stem cells
To produce any type of specialised cell
