NRVs Flashcards
What are nutrient reference values
standards that define energy and nutrients that best support health
RDI
recommended Dietary Intake - the average daily amount of a nutrient estimated to meet the requirements if NEARLY ALL (97-98%) healthy people
can be used to determine the LIKELIHOOD that intake is inadequate in an individual
EAR
Estimated Average Requirement - the average daily amount of a nutrient estimated to meet the requirements of HALF of healthy people
can be used to determine the LIKELIHOOD that intake is inadequate in an individual or group
AI
Adequate Intake- the average daily amount of a nutrient ACTUALLY CONSUMED by a group of apparently healthy people
UL
upper level0 the highest average amount of a nutrient likely to pose no adverse health affects to almost all individuals in the population
EER
estimated energy requirements- average dietary energy intake (KJ/day) predicted to maintain energy balance in a healthy person of a given age, gender, weight, height and physical activity level consistent with good health.
EER= BMR x PAL (physical activity rate)
AMDR
acceptable macronutrient distribution range. Estimated range of intake for each macronutrient which would allow for an adequate intake of all other nutrients while maintaining good health.
