PPE (takes or verbalizes appropriate PPE precautions)

2nd step Scene Size Up
A
- determine if the scene/situation is safe
- determine the MOI/NOI
- determine the number of patients
- request additional help if necessary
- consider C spine stabilization

3rd step Primary Assessment
A
- verbalize general impression of the patient
- determine responsiveness/LOC
- determine chief complaints/ life threats
- Airway
- opens and assesses airway
- inserts appropriate sized adjunct or verbalizes that the pt does not need one
- Breathing
- assess breathing
- assess ventilation
- administer oxygen
- manage any injury that may compromise breathing/ ventilation
- Circulation
- checks pulse
- assesses skin (color, temp, condition)
- assesses for and controls any major bleeding if present
- initiates shock management
Identifies priority of pt and makes transport decision based upon calculated GCS

A
- Obtains or directs assistant to obtain baseline vital signs
- Attempts to obtain a SAMPLE history

A
- Head
- inspects the head
- palpates the skull
- assesses eyes for reactiveness
- Neck
- inspects position of trachea
- inspects jugular veins
- palpates cervical spine
- Chest
- inspects chest
- palpates chest
- auscultates chest
- Abdomen/Pelvis
- inspects abdomen
- palpates abdomen
- inspects pelvis
- Lower extremities
- inspects, palpates and assesses motor, sensory and distal circulatory functions
- Upper extremities
- inspects, palpates and assesses motor sensory and circulatory functions
- Posterior thorax, lumbar and buttocks
- inspects posterior thorax
- palpates posterior thorax
- manages secondary injuries and wounds
- reassesses patient
