Nose (102-109) Flashcards
What is the nerve supply to the nose?;
Sensory- external nasal nerve (branch of opthalmic nerve CN V1), lateral aspects of nose by infraorbital nerve (branch of maxillary nerve CN V2). Motor- nasal muscles of facial expression via facial nerve (CN VII)\
What arteries form the Kiesselbach’s plexus?;
L E G S. Labial artery, Ethmoidal arteries, Greater palatine artery, Sphenopalatine (most important)
Name the paranasal sinuses;
Frontal sinus, Ethmoid sinus, Maxillary sinus, Sphenoid sinus
Into where do the paranasal sinuses drain?;
Superior nasal meatus-> posterior ethmoid sinus. Middle nasal meatus-> maxillary & frontal. Inferior nasal meatus -> nasolacrimal. Sphenoid ethmoid recess-> sphenoid sinus.
Name structures that lie within the substance of the parotid gland;
5 branches of facial nerve (Two Zebra Bit My Coccyx), retromandibular vein, external carotid artery (deepest)
State the course of the parotid duct and where it drains into;
Transveres the massester. The duct then pierces the buccinator, moving medially. It opens out into the oral cavity near the second upper molar.
What are the boundaries of the pterygopalatine fossa?;
Anteriorly- maxilla. Superiorly- Greater wing of sphenoid bone. Posteriorly- lateral pterygoid plate of sphenoid bone. Laterally- ptergomaxillar fissue. Medially & inferiorly- palatine bone.
What structures pass through the pterygopalatine fossa?;
Pterygopalatine gangilion, Maxillary nerve (CN V2), Maxillary artery, pterygoid venus plexus
