normal flora mid Flashcards
The systematic study of the interrelationship that exist between organisms and their environment
Ecology
The study of the human was interrelationship between Mike organisms and the world around them
Microbial ecology
It is defined as the living together or close association of teo dissimilar organism
symbiosis
Any organisms that are spend a portion or of all of its life associated with another organism of a different species
Symbiont or symbiotes
One organism remains outside the other
ectosymbiosis
One organism is present within the other
endosymbiosis
Three types of symbiotic relationship
Commensalism, mutualism and parasitism
It is a type of symbiotic relationship where the orher benefits while the other is neither harmed nor helped
Commensalism
Sample of commensalism
entamoeba coli and man
Symbiotic relationship that is beneficial to both symbiont
mutualism
Example of mutualism
Lichens
It is a branch of biology which deals the study of the phenomena of dependence of one living organism on another temporary early or permanently for the purpose of procuring food and shelter
parasitology
An organism that harbors a parasite and provides physical protection and nourishment to the specific parasite
host
It is the organism that lives in the body of another organism for survival
Parasite
It is a category of parasite that is attached to the skin or temporally invades the superficial tissues of the host body
Ectoparasite
It is a parasite established within the body of its host and produces an infection
endoparasite
It is a symbiotic relationship in which neither the symbiont is affected by the relationship
neutralism
A situation in which different microorganisms occupy the same ecological niche but have absolutely no effect on each other
Neutralism
This are two or more microorganisms team up to produce a disease that neither could cause by itself
Synergist
This is caused by fusobacterium, actinomyces abd prevotella species
acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis or vincent’s disease or trench mouth
Caused by mobiluncus and gardnerella spp
Bacterial vaginosis
It is also referred to as normal flora
Indigenous microflora of humans
Two categories of microorganisms
Resident and transient
These are micro organisms that normally grow on or in the skin
Resident
