What is a supplementary prescriber?
A
Voluntary partnership between independent prescriber and supplementary prescriber to implement a patient specific clinical management plan with the patients’ agreement

What is an independent prescriber?
A
A practioner who can prescribe responsibly and accountably by assessing patients with an undiagnosed or diagnosed condition. They are able to make decisions about clinical management required including prescribing

What does the clinical management plan include?
A
- Name of patient
- Illness/condition that can be treated
- Date plan takes effect and review date with independent prescriber
- Class/description of drug that can be prescribed
- Restrictions/limitations on strength, dose, duration
- Known sensitivities
- Procedure for reporting adverse drug reactions
- Criteria for referral back to independent prescriber

What are the legal requirements for pharmacist prescribers?
A
- Complete GPhC accredited programme
- Name on GPhC register for pharmacists
- Name on GPhC supplementary register for prescribers
- Prescribe only in accordance to prescribing status
- Legally accountable for any prescribing decisions

What are the training requirements
A
- 26 hours of structured learning activities
- 90 hours of learning in practice
- Must have 2 years patient-orientated experience post registration in appropriate UK practice setting
