I magnetic materials one that is attracted to a magnet and can be made into a magnet.
What are the tiny regions inside magnetic materials called?
U domains which behave like Microscopic magnets
In an on magnetized material domains are arranged at random, pointing in all directions what happens when the material is magnetized?
All the domains are pointing the same direction
Where are the regions of the greatest magnetic force? And what is it called?
Near to the end of the magnet these are called the poles
What happens when a magnet is allowed to move freely?
What a magnet is allowed to move freely, one pole turns towards the earths magnetic north pole and the other is called the North Pole magnet, and the other pole turns towards the earths magnetSouth pole and is called the south pole of the magnet.
When two magnets are brought together they’re similar poles repel each other, What do the different polls do?
They different poles attract each other.
How can you compare the strength of magnets?
We can compare the strength of magnets by finding out how many paper clips can hang In a chain from them or how many sheets of card can be placed between the magnet and paper clip before the paper clip falls away.
What is the magnetic field?
The magnetic field is the region around a magnet where the pole of a magnet force acts on magnetic materials.
How can the magnetic field Be shown
Magnetic field Can be shown by placing a bar magnet on a table, covering it with a sheet of paper, sprinkling iron filings on the paper, and then taping it. That iron filings then arrange themselves in two lines showing the lines of force in the magnet field.
What happens when an electric current runs through a wire?
It generates a magnetic field around it.
How do you make an electromagnet
An electromagnetic is made by wrapping a wire around an iron bar so that the wire makes a coil.
What happens when an electric current passes through the coil of an electromagnet.?
The magnetic field from the coil turns the iron bar into a magnet that can be used to lift up things.
What happens when the current in an electromagnet is switched off, while it is lifting something?
electromagnet drops the object it is holding
