Nit 2 cell division Flashcards
Mitosis
Provides new cells for growth and repair of damaged cells and maintains diploid chromosome complement
Diploid cells
Have two matching sets of chromosomes, which are replicated during mitosis
Step 1
Chromosomes double to form 2 identical chromotids
Step 2
Form shout coiled up chromosomes
from 2 chromotids
Step 3
Chromosomes attach to equator using spindle fibre
Step 4
Pairs of identical chromotids sepperating moving to opposite ends of the cell
Step 5
Cytoplasm divides
Separated chlorides called chromosomes
Step 6
2 daughter cells containing the same number of chromosomes as their parent cell
Importance of maintaining diploid chromosome number
So that each daughter cell can receive an identical copy of the parent cell chromosome
Daughter cells have the same chromosome complement as the original cell. Why is this important
Ensures no genetic nformation is lost
