generating BIG DATA

- determining the DNA sequence of large numbers of different DNA molecules simultaneously
- genome sequencing
- cDNA sequencing
process of NGS
1) take genome and fragment
2) machines then separate each fragment into their own area of the machine
3) these fragments are amplified using PCR involving fluorescent labelled nucleotides
4) each nucleotide is labelled with a different fluorescent dye
5) the different coloured nucleotides ae added sequentially
6) until order of the nucleotides is sequenced
computer is used to
rebuild fragments looking for overlapping sequences to assemble the genome

why is there a need for deep sequencing
