newtons law and forces Flashcards
what is a force and how is it measured?
A force is a push or pull or twist resulting from one object’s interaction with another object. Forces only exist as a result of an interaction. they can be measured using newtons.
A bus accelerates from 1.2 ms-1 to a speed of 15 ms-1 in 10 seconds.
The acceleration of the bus?
Formula: A = (Vf - Vi)/T

(vf−vi)

what is a net force and how would it be shown using a diagram?
The sum of the forces acting on a single object. To find the net force, add any forces acting in the same direction and subtract any forces acting in opposite directions.
how to draw a labelled force diagram
point up: normal, point down: gravity, point to the left: friction, point to the right: applied. the object is in the center with arrows coming out.
state newtons first law
an object will keep moving with the same speed and direction unless acted on by a net force.
Describe what inertia is
Inertia is the natural tendency of an object to maintain its velocity. it is the continue of motion.
what is newton’s second law of motion?
the net force of an object is equal to the objects mass multiplied by its acceleration
State Newton’s 3rd law
every force has an equal and opposite reaction force.
Solve problems for average speed, using the equation
v= t/s
