Newton's laws Flashcards
1
Q
What is Newton’s 1st law of motion?
A
- Objects will remain at rest, or continue at a constant velocity unless acted on by a resultant force
2
Q
What is Newton’s 2nd law of motion?
A
- The acceleration of an object is proportional to the resultant force acting on it and inversely proportional to the objects mass
3
Q
Equation for Newton’s 2nd law
A
- Resultant force (N) = mass (kg) X acceleration (m/s2)
4
Q
What is Newton’s 3rd law of motion?
A
- Whenever two object interact, the forces they exert on eachother are equal and opposite
5
Q
What is inertia?
A
- An object’s resistance to change motion
- If an object is at rest, it will tend to remain at rest
6
Q
What is inertial mass?
A
- The property of an object which describes how difficult it is to change its velocity
7
Q
Equation for intertial mass
A
- Intertial mass (kg) = force (N) / acceleration (m/s2)
