Motor effect Flashcards
1
Q
What is the idea of the motor effect?
A
- When a wire with current flowing through is placed in a magnetic field, it will experience a force
2
Q
Explain how the motor effect works?
A
- When current is passed through a wire, it will produce a magnetic field
- When placed inside another magnetic field, the two fields will interact, causing the wire to experience a force and move
3
Q
What is needed for the full motor effect to be experienced?
A
- The current carrying wire must be exactly perpendicular to the magnetic field it is placed in
4
Q
Flemings left hand rule
A
- Thumb: direction of force
- Index finger: direction of magnetic field
- Middle finger: direction of current
5
Q
How to calculate force of motor effect?
A
- Force (N) = magnetic flux density (T) x current (A) x length of wire (m)
