Masthead
title of the newspaper
Barcode
used to scan the newspaper
Caption
brief text underneath an image describing the photograph
Main image
the dominant picture often filing much of the page
Page numbers
a system of organisation, helping you pick and mix what you want to read.
Lead story
the main story, usually a splash
Folio
the top label of the whole paper can relate to the area covered in the paper
Page furniture
everything on the page except pictures, text or stories
Pull quote
something taken from within the article usually said by the person in the main image
Classified advert
much cheaper than larger display advertisements used by businesses
Target audience
the people at whom the media text is aimed
Byline
the line above the story, which gives the authors name and sometimes their job or location
Body text
also known as the copy, written material that makes up the main part of the article
Standfirst
block of text that introduces the story, normally in a different style to the body text and headline
Headline
the text indicating the nature of the article below
