Newman Valvular Disease Flashcards
Aortic Regurgitation is seen when
During Diastole
What adaptation does the heart develop for aortic regurgitation
Eccentric hypertrophy…myocytes multiply in series and the heart dilates and gets thicker
Aortic Stenosis is heard when
systole
What adaptation does the heart have for stenosis
Concentric hypertrophy….myocytes multiply in parallel. Walls are thickened and volume dimineshed
When looking at mitral stenosis, what two things do you want to look at when deciding whether or not to send someone to surgery
What is the gradient (difference in diastolic pressure between the left atrium and left ventricle)
What is the flow? CO
How do you tell acute mitral valve prolapse from chronic
Look for left atrial dilation…if none, its acute
Mitral valve prolapse
take amoxicillin before dental procedures to avoid IE
