New depressions/low pressure Flashcards
- There is a depression TIB
the low pressure moves from West-East.
- Winds blow anti-clockwise along the isobars
…
1) There will be high, wispy clouds TMT
it will be cool + dry before the warm sector hits Stirling.
2a) There is a cold front + a warm front TMT
the warm front is the first to pass through.
2b) There will be low + thick clouds (Nimbus Stratus) TIB
when warm air meets cold air, the warm air rises above it, then it cools, condenses + forms these clouds. Then it will start to drizzle.
2c) The air pressure will also decrease TIB
the air is rising so there will be low pressure.
2d) There will be a warm temp for about 10-11 hours TIB
warm air is coming in.
3) After the warm front passes through, Stirling will be in
the warm sector TMT
there is very little cloud cover, a warm temp + mainly dry with some drizzle (low pressure).
4) As the cold front gets closer, there will be
Cumulonimbus clouds TMT
there will be very heavy rain + the low pressure will drop in temp.
5) Just before the cool front passes Stirling, it will be cold
with little rain TIB
of the cold air.
6) Finally the cold front will pass. This occurs when cold
air meets warm air. The cold air is pushed upwards
TMT
we can expect rainfall/precipitation at fronts. TIB as the warm air is pushed up, it will cool, condense, form clouds + rain.
