1) Many of Glasgow’s streets have been pedestrianised
e. g Buchanan + Argyle Street
TMT these area are now safer for shoppers, they will have
a more pleasant shopping experience + there will be reduced congestion + air pollution.
2) Upgrading the CBD created more open space e.g
George Square
TMT events can be held here, attracting more people to rallies / demonstrations, Christmas fairs + a cultural place for people to gather.
3) An altered road network has been put in place so there
are now one way streets around George Square
TMT the flow of traffic is eased
4) High profile shops have been built
TMT companies like H+M + Apple on Buchanan Street make lots of money
TIB people are encouraged into these stores - through sale signs, music or items displayed in the windows.
5) More modern hi-tech office spaces have been built
TMT Lloyds TSB, Bank of Scotland + other finance centres are able to use them for employment.
6) All the shops in the main shopping centres e.g
Buchanan Galleries, St Enoch Centre + Princess Square
have been built under one roof
TMT people don’t want to walk from shop-shop when the weather is poor, so they are encouraged into these dry + warm environments.
TMT cafes + restaurants inside make profits from people wanting food + drink when shopping.
7) When the weather is hot A/C is provided + free parking
is provided all year round
TMT people will be more attracted to using these shopping centres.
8) More steps have been taken to increase tourism
TMT hotels like Hilton + Cultural venues have been built e.g Royal Concert hall, people can also go to 24/7 midnight screenings @ Cineworld.
