Headlands + Bays Flashcards
1
Q
Stage 1 - waves attack coastline
A
The geology of a coastline determines the rate of its erosion TMT headlands + bays are formed due to differential erosion
2
Q
Stage 2 - softer rock is eroded quickly
A
There are different bands of alternating rock types TMT rocks like clay and limestone are eroded at different rates. TIB clay is a softer rock than limestone so is eroded faster
Softer rocks erode backwards faster TMT they form sheltered bays containing beaches
3
Q
Stage 3 - harder rock juts out into the sea
A
The harder limestone areas are more resistant to erosion TMT they will stick out into the sea to form exposed headlands
