Combined labor and management by creating wages, fixing working conditions, and ending child labor in industries.
Needed so that the companies could be fair to the workers. It worked in the beginning because of respect and money for funding for the industry. Soon, business owners did not want interference and prices increased which the public did not like.
National Recovery Administration (NRA)
Provided jobs for 3 million young, single men. The men put out forest fires, built flood barriers, planted trees, and maintained forest roads and trails so America’s natural resources could stay protected.
This worked because the men were given houses and also money they could give their family. 3 million families were helped while also helping America’s natural resources. 300,000 employed at one time.
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
A holiday was made on March 6th so not all banks would have to close down due to bank runs. Banks that still had customers and money could reopen with the help of a watchful government.
The banks that reopened customers left their money in the now protected banks with decreased the number of bank runs. This worked because the customers felt their money was safe in the banks.
Emergency Banking Relief Act
Monitored the accounts made in banks and gave $5,000 in interest to each deposit made in a bank. Customers were repaid if a bank in it failed.
People could leave their money in the bank because even if the bank failed, they were still repaid.
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)
Would determine the worth of a banks stocks, deposits, loans, and owed money. If these assets worth started decreasing, the bank had an option to sell them off. Aid to unemployed.
If a customer felt unsafe, it could ask for its money back and it would have to give it to them. The customers stopped doing bank runs.
Reconstruction Finance Corporation
Helped decrease the percentage of homelessness by giving billions of dollars to programs that helped the homeless so the people could buy basic goods.
People who loaned money wouldn’t risk losing that money or their house.
Federal Emergency Relief Act (FERA)
Gave jobs to 4 million people that helped improve public infrastructure.
People (men and women) could earn money while also having a job that helped the nation and possibly get married. 1934- over 1 mil hired
Civil Works Administration (CWA)
Gave true information about a company so investors buy the right stocks.
The Stock Market was becoming less risky and the stock prices were now fair.
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
Helped improve the Tennessee Valley region because of the flooding river, poor region, little population, old facilities, bad farming land, and steep land.
The dams built gave electricity to the area and help with the flooding, power lines helped provide electricity to the people, and improved the environment. Taught farmers how to improve environment and kids went to school.
Tennessee Valley Authority Act (TVA)
Created jobs for people to build public works in Pacific Northwest.
The dams built by it helped give water and electricity to the people so they could water their crops.
Public Works Administration
First helped with pairing large agricultural producers with the government and when oversupply occurred, made sure the price didn’t drop. Farmers were paid to grow and raise less.
Was unpopular with the people because of how much the government killed (animal and plants). The first thing lead to overproduction.
Agricultural Adjustment Administration
Schechter Poulter got sent to court because they broke the laws of the NRA but they believed the NRA was unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court thought that the President should not be able to create workplace rules. The Congress could not control what Schechter did in New York. SP had long hours, against NRA and SP said they were not interstate and SP won.
Schechter Poultry Corporation v. United States
A program that hired 8.5 million people to build. It also helped skilled artists to continue with their jobs. Cost lots of money.
Helped people keep and get new jobs while also paying them. Provided relief with art.
Works Progress Administration (WPA)
National Labor Relations Act.
Unions became very popular and many women joined them. Allowed people to have collective bargaining negotiations.
Wagner Act
Helped retired people by creating an account with money put in it by the boss and the worker. If people were hurt, they were given benefits, it helped people with bad eyesight, gave retirement pay, and it helped people who had physical limitations, were unemployed, a poor mother, or a poor child.
This act was so successful that people still use it today, it helps over 60 million people. Medicare and Medicaid. Receive money if older relative died that had it.
