Neurotransmitters Flashcards
What is the NT criteria
The chemical must be produced within the neuron and must be found within it too.
When the neuron is stimulated, it must release the chemical.
When it’s released, it must bind to a post synaptic receptor and cause a biological effect.
ACETOCHOLINE (ACH) receptors and E or I?
Nicotonic (ionotropic): excitatory (let positive ions in).
muscarinic: can both excitatory and inhibitory.
DOPAMINE (2 receptor classes).and E or I?
D1-like: both
D2-like: both
NE / EP 2 receptors class and E or I?
NE : Alpha 1+2 , INHIBITORY
EP: Alpha 1+2 and Beta 1+2 and INHIBITORY
Indolamines and E or I?
many receptors and both
Opioid 3 receptors classes
mew : lets out K+
delta : lets out K+ and CA2+
kappa: lets out CA2+
Glutamate (3 iontropic) and many metabotropic
NMDA (ionotropic)
KAINATE (ionotropic)
AMPA(ionotropic)
theyre all excitatory. (they let in positive ions.).
GABA
GABA A (ionotropic) (lets in CL-)
GABA B(metabotropic). (lets out K+)
theyre all inhibitory
