Action potential Flashcards
1
Q
what is a myelinated (saltatory conduction)?
A
AP travels faster: jumps 1 node of Ranvier to another because of the mylein sheath.
2
Q
What is a unmyelinated conduction?
A
AP travels slower because there is no myelin (zone of integration down the axon).
3
Q
what is the flow of information
A
Dendrites-Soma-axon
repeat.
4
Q
what is the all or non law
A
either there is Action potential or there is not. nothing in between
5
Q
what is the rate law
A
The strength of stimuli affects the rate of firing; a strong stimulus produces more action potentials than a weak stimulus
6
Q
what affects the speed of the transmission
A
The size of the axon (the resistance and the number of v-gated NA+ channels)
and the myelin sheath
