Neurons & Glial Cells Flashcards
What are the 2 main cells of the nervous system?
Glial cells and neurons
What are neurons?
signaling cells that produce and conduct action potential (are mainly electrically excitable) to eventually produce a synapses
What are glial cells?
-support cells for neurons
-provide nutritional support to neurons
-support neurons during embriogenesis and neurogenesis
When we have more dendrites, we have more spines and thus…
more surface area for synapse
What are the types of neurons?
Sensory neurons
Motor neurons
Interneurons
Sensory neurons
afferent. detect and transmit signal from the enviroment
Sensory neurons divide into:
special sense neurons(located in sense organs of CNS(photoreceptor cells of the retina of the eye)or sense organs in the PNS(ej: hair cells)
