Neurodevelopmental disordser in which genetic and neurobiological factors play a central role.

what are the DSM-V diagnostic criteria in children?
A
-Symptoms before age 12
-Display symptoms for at least 6 months
-Maladaptive & inconsistent with developmental level
-Must be pervasive (at least 2 settings)
-Must interfere with social, academic or work
-Cannot be explained by any other condition

What are the 3 core symptoms of ADHD?
A
- Inattention: Child exhibits significant inattention across multiple domains with no significant hyperactivity or impulsivity
2.Impulsivity: Child exhibits adequate attentional control however presents with significant deficits with impulse control
3.Hyperactivity: Child exhibits adequate attentional control, yet presents with increased activity level and dysregulation.

- Selective attention: ability to concentrate without distraction
- Sustained attention: ability to maintain a persistent focus
