Neuro Stuff Flashcards
Motor efferent neurons
Efferent= exit
Carry info FROM CNS to effectors
2 types:
- Somatic motor neurons: innervate skeletal muscles n is under voluntary control
- Autonomic motor neurons: innervate visceral smooth muscle, cardiac muscle n glands. Involuntary. Further divided to SNS and PNS nervous systems
Sensory afferent neurons
Afferent= arrive
Carry info TO the CNS
2 categories of sensory neurons:
1.Somatic sensory neurons: transmit info from skin/skeletal muscle to CNS
2. Visceral Sensory neurons: transmit info from internal organs n blood vessles to CNS
PNS
Made of spinal nerves (nerves that come off spinal cord) and Cranial nerves ( nerves that come off brain + brain stem)
CNS
= brain n spinal cord
Visceral
Organs
Anterior
At front of body
Posterior
= bak of body
Glial cells
Support n protect neurons
Soma
Cell body of neuron
Clusters of soma in CNS= nucleus
Clusters of soma in PNS= ganglion
Telondendria
Processes at end of axon
Myelin sheath
Formed by wrappings of either
Schwann cells/neurolemmocytes (PNS) or
Oligodendrocytes (CNS) around axons
Made of fat
Meninges
3 layers of protection for the spinal cord
From outside to in:
Dura mater
Arachnoid mater
Pia mater
Epidural space
Contains fat
Outside of dura mater bw dura mater n bone
Where we inject!! Lumbar spine injection stuff
Subdural space
Bw dura mater and arachnoid
Subarachnoid space
Space bw pia mater n arachnoid
