Foville’s syndrome
CN 5,6,7 and Horner’s: pons lesion near CN 6
CN 9,10,11, Horner’s ipsi decreased pain/temperature of face, contra pain /temp of trunk and limbs
lteral medullary syndrome of wallenburg: stroke of vertebral artery or PICA
topical cocaine
blocks reuptake of NE. abnormal result: no dilation
Hydroxyamphetamine
releases NE from nerve terminal: distinguishes pre from post ganlgionic. positive in pregnalionic lesion. neg is post gangiolonic lesions
apraclonidine
alpha 2>alpha 1. affected horner’s deinervated: hypersensitvie to alpha 1. reversal of anisorcoia: horner’s pupil dilates more.
5th-6th decade, french candaian, progressive dysphagia followed by ptosis, CPEO
OCULOPHARNYGEAL DYSTROPHY (AD)
chromsome 19; christmass tree cataract, pigmentary retinopathy, ptosis fish face, testicular atrophy, frontal baldness, cardiac
myotony dystrophy
ptotic lid lifted, other lids fall, cogan’s lid twich (when pt looks from downgaze to up, lid will overshoot)
