Neuro movement analysis Flashcards

Q

Sit to Stand

A

Concentric contraction of quadriceps, glutes, and spinal erectors to initiate hip and knee extension. Stability via co-contraction of dorsi and plantar flexors of the ankle to maintain upright posture as well as intrinsic muscles of the foot.

Stability from core - transverse abdominis, multifidus to maintain upright posture - isometric contraction.

Base of support - 3 points of contact over wider area to 2 across a narrower base.

Centre of gravity shifts forward to generate momentum.

Stand to Sit

A

Eccentric contraction of glutes and quadriceps to control descent into chair. Stability provided by core - transverse abdominis, obliques, multifidus.

Passive dorsiflexion eccentrically controlled by gastroc and soleus.

Centre of gravity shifts down and backwards as sits back into chair.

Base of support from 2 points of contact in narrow stance to 3 across a wider area

Q

Glute Bridge

A

Hip Extension via Concentric Contraction of glutes, isometric contraction of hamstring. Maybe posterior pelvic tilt.

Stability provided by core - transverse abdominis, multifidus, obliques. as well as co contraction between abductors (glute med/tfl) and adductors to prevent knees collapsing or dropping out to side.

Centre of gravity rises and shifts towards head

Base of support goes from long wide base with 3 points of contact to higher, narrower support still 3 points of contact. Descent controlled by eccentric action of glutes and quads.

Q

Stand to Step

A

Hip flexors illiopsoas contract concentrically to generate hip flexion to raise foot off floor. Forward lean transfers centre of gravity forward to generate momentum, knee extension via concentric contraction on quadricep to swing leg through. Dorsiflexion of ankle to initiate heel strike and clear ground. Decelerated by eccentric action of dorsiflexors.

stability on standing leg via glutes, adductors, core muscles

Base of support from together to staggered stance, potentially reducing balance.

Q

Forward Reach

A

Trunk flexion, concentric contraction of core and hip flexors to generate forward momentum. Shoulder flexion via concentric contraction of the deltoid, coracobrachialis.

extension of elbow via tricep concentric action

wrist extension via concentric action of wrist extensors - extensor carpi radialis/ulnaris

trunk rotation? obliques
