Q
Inferior gluteal nerve.
A
The inferior gluteal nerve is one of the most critical nerves in the gluteal region. It originates from the L5-S2 nerve roots. The inferior gluteal nerve exits the pelvis and enters the gluteal region through the greater sciatic foramen inferiorly to the piriformis muscle. The inferior gluteal nerve is a pure motor nerve. It provides motor innervation to the gluteus maximus muscle, which is involved in the extension and external rotation of the thigh at the hip joint.
