NET-06-P1 Subnetting Concepts Flashcards
means subdividing a network to manage, design and implement an effective IP addressing plan. Reduces overall network traffic and improves performance
Subnetting
containing many hosts poses a problem for broadcast domains, because hosts can generate broadcast messages and affect network performance
Large Broadcast Domains
is a subnet created by borrowing one or more of the host bits to be used as network bits
e.g: Additional 1 bits means more Networks
Additional 0 bits means more Hosts
Octet Boundary*
allows an IP address to use any subnet mask, regardless of predefined classes
Classless Inter-domain Routing
Why would organizations uses a Classless Interdomain Routing
Some organizations with big networks (400 hosts) must use class B, which means they will waste addresses (60,000)
is a method by which a network is subnetted are then subnetted further
VLSM - Variable Length subnet mask
How many hosts are in a Class C network
254
How many hosts are in a Class B network

How many hosts are in a Class A network
