Nervous Tissue Flashcards
Are neurons able to grow or regenerate?
Neurons are terminally differentiated, but axons are able to regenerate somewhat.
Perikaryon
Soma of the neuron
Axon Hillock
Where the axon arises from the soma
Terminal bouton
The same thing as the motor end plate when in conjunction with muscle cells.
What does anterograde transport use?
Kinesin
Retrograde transport uses what?
Dynein
What are some examples of multi-polar neurons?
Motor neurons and interneurons
What are some examples of bipolar neurons?
Receptor neurons of the retina.
What is an example of unipolar neurons?
Sensory neurons.
What is an example of a pseudo-unipolar neuron?
Dorsal root ganglia.
Nodes of Ranvier are responsible for what kind of conduction?
Salvatory.
This allows for faster conduction and conserve electrolytes
What features play a role in axon regeneration, and where are these most likely to occur?
Epithelioid and myopic features.
Where are ganglia derived from in the embryo?
The neural crest. Similar to all peripheral nerves.
Where are satellite cells derived from?
The neural crest.
