Nervous System Flashcards
Frontal Lobe
maintaining attention, speech, and decision-making.
Parietal Lobe
speech, reading, touch sensations
Occipital Lobe
vision
Temporal Lobe
memory
Cerebellum
balance
Medulla (part of the brain stem)
allowing for the relay of signals between the brain and spinal cord.
What are meninges and what is their purpose?
3 layers that protect the brain
What 2 parts in your nervous system are made up of?
central nervous system
peripheral nervous system.
CSF should look clear?
If CSF is bloody?
If CSF is cloudy?
- that’s normal
- it could mean: subarachnoid hemorrhage
- it could mean: meningitis
What is meningitis?
The medical term for brain?
What is encephalitis?
- viral or bacterial infection
- cerebrum
- inflammation of the brain
Why do some reflex reactions not go to the brain?
- it would take longer to send the message to the brain
- the signal is relayed from the spinal cord, such as touching a hot flame, or the knee jerk reflex
What is the central nervous system made up of?
Made up of the brain and spinal cord
What is the peripheral nervous system made up of?
Made up of nerves that branch off from the spinal cord and extend to all parts of the body
What are sensory neurons?
The nerve cells that are activated by sensory input from the environment
What are motor neurons?
Allow us to move, speak, swallow and breathe by sending commands from the brain to the muscles that carry out these functions.
What is CTE?
A progressive degenerative brain disease starting with memory loss and brain disease and developing into dementia. Can only be diagnosed after death
