Nerves of the Forelimb Flashcards
what innervates the cutaneous trunci? what reflex is it responsible for?
the lateral thoracic nerve; panniculus reflex
where is the long thoracic nerve and what does it innervate?
on top of and innervates the serratus ventralis
what does the thoracodorsal nerve innervate?
the latissimus dorsi
what do the cranial and caudal pectoral nerves innervate?
cranial: superficial pecs (descending and transverse pecs)
caudal: deep pectorals
what is the subclavius part of in the equine and what is it innervated by?
subclavius is part of deep pectoral and innervated by caudal pectoral nerve
describe the path of the suprascapular nerve
disappears between supraspinatus and infraspinatus; wraps around cranial edge of scapula
describe the path of the subscapular nerve
runs under scapula to subscapularis
describe the path of the radial nerve
- enters triceps medially
- runs on top of brachialis
- divides into superficial and deep branches at the elbow
- deep branch runs under supinator
- superficial branch divides into 3 branches
- medial and lateral branches of superficial radial are sensory to skin
describe the cutaneous autonomous zone for the radial nerve
carpus, metacarpals, all digits except most lateral digit (dorsal/cranial arm)
what is special about the radial nerve in bovines
the superficial branch joins the musculocutaneous branches to form dorsal metacarpal and digital nerves; so can see radial nerve dorsally!
where is the median nerve located?
in brachial and antebrachial regions
what does the median nerve form in bovines and equines?
the medial and lateral palmar nerves
are gait changes observed in equines from median nerve damage?
no!
where is the ulnar nerve located?
in the brachial and antebrachial regions
is the a cutaneous autonomous zone for the median nerve? why or why not?
no! it dives deep under muscles; not sensory
