Nerve System Flashcards
Cell Body
Main part of the neuron
-Contains Nucleus and Organelles
Dendrite
The branch that receives information and carries nerve impulses to the cell body
Axon
Carries a nerve impulse away from the cell body into the next neuron, muscle, or gland
Sensory Neurons
Carry sensory information to the CNS
Motor Neurons
Carry information from CNS to muscles or glands
Interneurons
Connect Sensory neurons to motor neurons
Nerve
A bundle of axons, dendrites
-both in the PNS
Ganglion
A collection of cell bodies outside the CNS
Tract
A bundle of axons or dendrites in CNS
Ascending Tract
Go up the spinal cord
-Sensory
Descending Tract
Go down the spinal cord
-Motor
Nucleus
Collection of cell bodies inside the CNS
Action Potential
-Nerve Impulse
